Overview

After uploading your documents, you'll sign your titling and registration forms. Ekho generates pre-filled state-specific forms using your information, which you then sign using at least one of four methods: electronic signature (e-sign), remote signing, remote online notarization (RON), and physical wet signature. The signing method is determined by your state's requirements and the specific documents you need to complete.

How It Works

Ekho automatically determines which signing method you'll use based on your state's DMV requirements:

For e-signatures, you'll sign online in a secure portal.
For remote signing, you'll schedule a session with an Ekho team member who will guide you through the process.
For remote online notarization (RON), you'll complete a video call with a licensed notary who verifies your identity and witnesses your signatures.
For physical signatures, you'll download, print, sign, and mail forms back to Ekho with a prepaid shipping label.

Some orders require a combination of signing methods. Ekho walks you through each step in order — you complete e-signatures and RON sessions first, then move on to remote signing or physical signatures for the remaining documents. Each step unlocks after the previous one is finished.

Sign Documents Electronically

E-signature is available when your state's DMV accepts electronic signatures for titling and registration documents and notarization isn't required. This is the fastest and most common signing method.

Documents you may sign: Power of Attorney for Title and Registration, Application for Certificate of Title, Vehicle Registration Application, Odometer Disclosure Statement, Bill of Sale, Rider Age Acknowledgment Form (ATV purchases only), and other state-specific forms.

Open Document Set
On the Signatures page, click "Open document set to sign" to begin. A secure signing interface opens in your browser.
Review First Document
The first document loads automatically. Scroll through to review the content. All your information is pre-filled — verify it's accurate. Signature fields are highlighted in yellow.
Create Your Signature
Click on a highlighted signature field to open the signature creation tool. Choose to type, draw, or upload your signature. Your signature will be applied consistently throughout all documents.
Sign All Fields
Apply your signature to each required field. Add initials where requested and acknowledge checkboxes if present. All fields must be completed before proceeding.
Continue to Next Document
Click "Continue" or "Next Document" to move forward. Progress is tracked showing how many documents you've completed.
Finish Signing
Once all documents are complete, click "Complete Signing" or "Finish." Documents are automatically sent to the Ekho team and you can download copies for your records.

Complete Remote Signing Session

Remote signing is used when your state mandates wet signatures for T&R documents but notarization is not required. An Ekho employee will join for the session and guide you through the process.

What you'll need: valid government-issued ID, 15-20 minutes of uninterrupted time, quiet well-lit space, device with working camera and microphone, stable internet connection (5+ Mbps recommended).

Download Documents to Review
Before scheduling, download your VOS (Vehicle Order Summary) packet. Review these documents ahead of time.
Select Date and Time
Use the calendar interface to choose a date and time. Sessions are typically available during business hours with some limited evening and weekend slots.
Confirm Booking
You'll receive email confirmation with a calendar invite, session join link, and preparation instructions.
Join Phone Call
At your scheduled time, you'll receive a call from the Ekho team and open your Buyer Portal to enter the remote signing session.
Review and Sign Documents
The team will share each document on your screen, explain key points, confirm you understand, and direct you to sign the signature fields. This typically takes 10-15 minutes.

Tip: Sessions are recorded for legal compliance. If your connection drops, you can rejoin and continue where you left off.

Complete Remote Online Notarization (RON)

RON is used when your state requires documents to be notarized but accepts remote online notarization. You'll complete a live video call with a licensed online notary.

RON is currently available in: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. If your state isn't listed, you'll use the physical signature workflow instead.

What you'll need: government-issued photo ID, device with working camera and microphone, stable internet connection, 5-10 minutes of uninterrupted time.

Verify Your Identity
Complete identity verification: take a selfie, answer knowledge-based authentication (KBA) questions, and present your government-issued ID.
Join Video Call with Notary
Connect to a live video call. The notary will confirm your identity, walk you through each document, witness your electronic signatures, and apply their digital notary seal.
Session Complete
Once the notary completes the process, your documents are finalized and submitted automatically.

Physically Sign and Mail Notarized Forms

Physical signatures are required when your state requires T&R documents to be notarized with a physical wet signature.

Download Forms Packet
Click "Download my forms" to get your complete packet, including all pre-filled registration forms, instructions and checklist, and a prepaid UPS shipping label. The packet is a single PDF, typically 8-15 pages.
Print All Pages
Print the entire packet. Look for "✎ SIGN HERE" markers showing where to sign.
Sign Non-Notary Forms
Sign all forms marked with signature lines except those labeled "Requires notarization." Do not sign notarized forms yet — these must be signed in the presence of a notary.
Get Notarization
Take your forms and government-issued ID to a notary public. Recommended locations: UPS Store (notaries on staff — convenient to notarize and ship in one visit), your bank (often free for customers), courthouse, or real estate offices. Typical cost: $5-15 per signature.
Prepare Package
Place all signed and notarized forms in a large envelope. Print the prepaid UPS shipping label and attach it to the envelope.
Ship to Ekho
Drop your package at any UPS location. No payment needed — the label is prepaid. Typically arrives in 3-5 business days.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Why can't I electronically sign all my documents?

The signing method is determined by your state's DMV requirements. Some states require wet signatures or notarization for certain titling and registration documents. When wet signatures are required without notarization, we use remote signing sessions. When notarization is required and your state supports RON, you'll complete a video session. If your state does not support RON, you'll sign physically in front of an in-person notary.

What's the difference between RON and remote signing?

Remote signing is a live session with an Ekho team member where you sign documents electronically while they observe. RON is a video call with a licensed notary who officially notarizes your documents. RON is required when your state mandates notarization but allows it to be done remotely.

How long does e-signing take?

Typically 10-15 minutes to review and sign all documents. You can pause and resume if needed — progress is saved automatically.

How long does a RON session take?

Typically 5-10 minutes. The identity verification step takes 1-2 minutes, and the video call with the notary takes 3-5 minutes depending on the number of documents.

What if I make a mistake while signing?

For e-signatures, click on a signed field again to redo before completing the document set. For remote signing, the team member will guide you through. For physical signatures, print fresh forms and restart before mailing; if already mailed, contact Ekho support.

Where can I find a notary for physical signatures?

UPS Stores have notaries on staff (recommended since you'll ship there anyway). Banks often provide free notary services for customers. Courthouses, real estate offices, and independent notaries are also options. Search online for "notary public near me."

How long until my registration is complete?

After signing, Ekho prepares your packet (5-7 business days) and submits it to the DMV. DMV processing typically takes 4-8 weeks, though timing varies by state. If you have purchased a street-legal vehicle, you'll receive temporary tags while permanent plates are processed.
