Ekho handles the paperwork to title and register your vehicle with your state's DMV. The general process is:
Complete your buyer portal steps — identity verification, insurance, and paperwork sections
Sign titling and registration documents — depending upon your state requirements this could include completing e-signature documents, a remote signing or notarization session, or printing and returning physical, notarized documents
VIN inspection (if required by your state) — have a licensed verifier inspect your vehicle. Please note, this must take place after your vehicle is delivered.
Ekho submits to the DMV — we process your paperwork with the state
Receive your plates — the DMV mails your permanent plates and registration, typically within 4–6 weeks

Once Ekho submits your complete paperwork to the DMV, processing typically takes 4–6 weeks. However, timelines vary by state and there may be delays beyond Ekho's control. If you have purchased a street-legal vehicle, you will receive a temporary tag to use while your permanent plates are being processed.

There could be many reasons you're blocked at the paperwork section, including missing vehicle information from the production team, awaiting a wire transfer to be processed, or waiting for VIN assignment. Rest assured, you will receive an email once your paperwork section is ready.

If you have already sent in all the relevant paperwork, Ekho is processing the documents with the DMV as fast as possible. The DMV typically takes 4–6 weeks to process after submission. However, there may be delays at the DMV that Ekho cannot predict. Please reach out to Ekho support if you would like a more detailed status update on your title and registration.

Absolutely. For all road-legal vehicles, Ekho will mail you a physical registration tag that lasts up to 90 days once the vehicle is shipped or nearing delivery. This should arrive within 3-5 days of your delivery.

If you selected automated titling and registration, you typically will not need to visit the DMV. Ekho handles the submission on your behalf, and the DMV will mail your permanent plates and registration documents directly to you. The only exception is if your state requires a VIN inspection or has a meet-at-state requirement. The Ekho team will provide information and instructions should your state require either

No, Ekho submits the paperwork to the DMV, and the DMV will mail the title and license plates to you once processing is complete.

Ekho prepares documents based on the registration address provided at checkout and does not support changing the titling state after purchase. If you wish to title the vehicle in another state, you may attempt to do so independently.

Ekho will inform you of any state-specific requirements and provide detailed instructions for completing them. Some states have additional requirements for titling and registration, including:
California — REG-31 VIN Verification form required. This must be completed by a local CA DMV, California Highway Patrol, or a licensed vin verifier service
Oregon — You may be required to remit use tax payments online as part of the titling process
Idaho, Utah, Nevada — VIN inspection certificates required. These are typically completed by DMV or law enforcement acgencies
Some states — Notarized Power of Attorney (POA) documents required
